About Dental Bonding

Dental bonding uses a substance comprised of resin that is bonded onto the teeth to fix cosmetic issues. Beachwood Dental's team of accomplished dentists offer dental bonding to fill in gaps in the teeth, fix chipped or broken teeth, reshape too small teeth or misalignment, as well as brighten the overall color of the teeth. Many of our Los Alamitos, CA patients have seen quick, noticeable results from undergoing dental bonding to restore the appearance of their teeth and present a healthier smile. Dental bonding is one of the simplest ways to cosmetically enhance the appearance of the teeth, and our dentists would be happy to individually meet with each patient to assess their aesthetic dental goals.

What to Expect

Dental bonding and contouring is usually fast and pain-free for most patients, so it can be performed in our dentist's office with little or no numbing. To prepare the tooth for proper bonding, our dentist will etch the top layer of the tooth and apply a conditioning gel. Before it is applied, the resin itself is matched to the patient's natural tooth color and is carefully painted on to the enamel. A special light is used to harden and cure the resin until the resin covers the treatment area. Once the resin is set, our dentist can polish and buff the surface of the tooth to make the bonded tooth smooth and even. The natural teeth can also be polished and contoured with special dental instruments to remove sharp edges and even out the tops of the teeth.

Treatment Aftercare

Patients may find that their newly bonded and contoured teeth feel a little unusual at first, but they will gradually become accustomed to the new shape and feeling. To prolong the life of dental bonding, patients should attend regular dental visits for cleanings and exams as well as maintain a good oral hygiene routine with brushing and flossing. After bonding and contouring treatments, patients should avoid staining foods and drinks, as well as smoking and wear on the teeth. With good care, bonding and contouring can last 3 – 10 years before another treatment may be needed to maintain results.
